A "vision" is the God-inspired blueprint of what the church
will be when it is fully developed. The vision will be centered on the
values that are unique to the church and driven
by the passions of the leadership; yet the vision will remain entirely
God's.
We
call ourselves a "connecting church," because like a "bridge"
we long to connect two objects that are separated by an impassable barrier.
The first connection that will happen at The Bridge Community is between
people and God. Human beings begin life separated from God and although
we strive to close this gap in many ways, we are hopeless on our own.
The impassable barrier that stands between us and God was bridged by
Jesus Christ. And so our mission is to communicate the message of Jesus,
to introduce people to a life-changing relationship with him.
More than 20,000 people in the Radcliff-Elizabethtown
area have no faith involvement. Because we're convinced that the only
way they will ever find fulfillment in life is by knowing God, this
group is our target.
The second "connection" that will happen at The Bridge Community
is person to person. In North America over the past 40 years, people
have become increasingly disconnected. Pollster George Gallup, Jr. describes
Americans as isolated - 7 out of 10 do not know their neighbors, one
third of all Americans admit to frequent periods of loneliness. If someone
wrote a book about us, perhaps it would be called, The Loneliest
Generation.
Many
obstacles stand in the way of genuine relationships - human selfishness
and greed, the false ideal of individualism, and the breakdown of family
relationships just to name a few. But these seemingly impassable barriers
were bridged by God when he sent his Holy Spirit to the church. And
so our mission is to be the kind of church where caring for those in
need, embracing the outcast, and serving one another are all part of
everyday life in the community. In short, we want to depend on the Spirit
to reproduce in us the humility and self-giving love that Jesus exemplified.
One out of two people in the Radcliff-Elizabethtown area
do not have a church community to call their own. Because we're convinced
that the best way to encounter God is in authentic, Christ-centered
community, this group is our target.
